Killer Resume Writing Tips!

When you start a job search one of the most important things to do is to compose a resume. The resume is the first thing that a hiring manager will look at and will do a quick scan of the resume to see if your past experience fits their job description. Hiring managers get a lot of new resumes per day so that may only spend 20 to 30 seconds scanning your resume.

When composing your resume you want to make sure that the most important parts of your past experience standout right away. In this article we will give you tips that will get your resume noticed an get an interview.

1. Emphasize Your Strengths

Before writing your resume sit down and come up with a list of what you feel are your strengths and what you can bring to the table on the new job. When you have determined your strengths make sure that you put them in the beginning of the resume. If your strengths are what the hiring manager is looking for they will be more apt to review the rest of the resume.

2. Be Specific

When you are adding your past experience to a resume make sure that you are specific about your accomplishments. Use numbers and percentages to highlight some of your accomplishments such as grew revenue base by 150% over previous year. Increased productivity by 45% over previous manager which led to 20% profitability of product line. As you can see these are a couple of examples to use and these will stand out to the hiring managers and let them know that you are somebody who can help their company.

3. Tailor Your Resume to the Job Posting

It is a good idea to have several resumes on hand to highlight different keywords. Hiring managers when looking through databases on job posting boards will search keywords that will bring them back resumes that fit. If you have several resumes available after looking at the job posting you can apply for the job with the keywords that match the companies posting.
