How to Use Colors According to Feng Shui Principles
Colors are, without any doubt, incredibly expressive and can induce ones mood and the same fact is sustained by the Feng Shui principles. How so? Basically, Feng Shui theories divide colors in yin and yang colors.
Which ones are the yin colors? The main this that can be said about these types of nuances is that they are colder or more rigid than the yang ones: blue, black, white, green, pink and purple. Blue is the most powerful yin color, and this is due to the fact that it carries that calm and peaceful yin energy but besides these, blue is also the color of the water and sky, which implies the fact that it symbolizes adventure and search, a search for goals, values or for wisdom, and this is the main reason why blue should not miss from our homes. Based on these principles, blue, together with green, should be used in our living spaces, such as the living room, but also in our bedrooms, in areas of high visibility for example, frontal wall, a frontal cupboard. Blue and green are also associated with nature and the facts are that natural elements and colors induce a state of comfort.
Even if it is a strong and quite upsetting color, black is the symbol of money and wealth and, therefore, it should not miss from our homes. But the Feng Shui principles say that black is most benefic if it is associated with metal. Some might think that the black and white contrasts are very desirable, but Feng Shui ideas sustain that white should be mostly associated with colors like gold or silver, for genuine purity and calmness.
Which ones are the yang colors? First of all, there is red, then orange, yellow and brown, with all their variations. All these colors represent the fire, warmth and high energy. Red is, without any doubt, an intense, powerful and some might say even aggressive color. Its vibrant feature and intensity make it an incredible energy charger according o these facts, the Feng Shui principles suggest that red (or its close variants, such as burgundy, crimson red or even brick orange) should be placed in our home, facing the entrance. In this way, we tend to get charged by this color the minute we walk into our home.
But one of the most important principles of Feng Shui regarding colors is that nothing should be used in excess and balance is the most important thing to be considered. This means that too many fire elements in a certain space, such as red or orange elements or too many water elements, such as blue or green items can create discomfort. This discomfort can not actually be noticed in many cases, but it does affect ones state of mind, mood and general well being on a longer term.
