As A Manager Are You Consistent In Your Treatment Of Your Employees?

Published at 3:02 am under Sales Marketing Management

One of the key ingredients of good managers is the ability to maintain consistency in all of their roles and activities. Some of these include how they:

1. Deal with adversity.
\r 2. Discipline employees.
\r 3. React to crises.
\r 4. Respond to threats both internal and external.
\r 5. Coach employees.
\r 6. Train and develop employees.
\r 7. Communicate with employees and other managers.
\r 8. Make decisions.
\r 9. Delegate.
\r 10. Plan.
\r 11. Manage time.
\r 12. Manage corporate resources.

Very few managers that I have encountered during my 25 year career as a trainer, coach and consultant have the ability to maintain a high degree of integrity when it come to consistency. There are always factors, circumstances and people that are able to pull these managers out of their ability to control this aspect of their career roles.

Here are a few benefits to maintaining consistency:

1. People will know what you expect.
\r 2. People will know what you believe and why.
\r 3. People will be able to be honest with you.
\r 4. People will bring you bad news without fear of retribution.
\r 5. You will achieve more.
\r 6. You will enjoy life more.
\r 7. You will live longer.
\r 8. You will make more money.
\r 9. You will better be able to influence people.
\r 10. You will have more fun.

I recommend you develop a personal strategy, benchmark or philosophy to ensure you improve in your ability to be consistent. Please keep in mind this\r approach does not necessarily imply that you lose spontaneity, flexibility, the human touch, or the need to get irrational from time to time. I suggest that these times be few and far between and that they take place while you are locked in a closet somewhere.
