An Amazing Resume

Published at 2:37 pm under Resume Letter

If you want to create an amazing resume, you have to provide what the employer is looking for. The most important aspect of writing a resume is ensuring that your qualifications match the needs of the employer. If you are in the middle of a major job hunt, it can seem tedious to edit each resume so that it is specifically targeted to each position and each company, but it truly pays off when you get called for an interview and many others do not.

If you want an amazing job, you need an amazing resume.

How do you know what the employer needs? Researching the position and the company are paramount to your success in this endeavor. You must find out what the position entails and then match your skills and accomplishments to the requirements of that position. There are several ways to go about this, too.

Type in the position title in any given search engine and see what comes up. Many times you will gain some perspective by reading what other sites have to say about that job title. To tighten the search, check out the major Internet job boards and again, type in the position title. You will probably find a variety of ads for positions of the kind you are seeking and you can determine what some employers require. Lastly, check out the Bureau of Labor Statistics web site. The Occupational Outlook Handbook lists most jobs and what they consist of, how many people are employed in that field and what the job outlook is for that position.

As for company research, the best place to go is the companys web site. What is the companys mission, projected growth, target market and corporate structure? This tells you a lot about how you should focus your resume. For example, if the company is in a very competitive field, you need to show in your resume that you can help them achieve a higher percentage of growth within their market niche with your specific skills and accomplishments.

Creating an amazing resume may take a little more time than creating a plain resume, but your chances of being taken seriously are much greater.
