In an earlier post titled \”The Purpose Factors\” we examined the purpose of participating in the multiple mediums of the virtual world. Based on some observational data and interviews there seems to be a lack of purpose yet a hope for one to emerge. In our earlier post we state The critical shift which will facilitate the emergence of The Relationship Economy will be when individuals step back from the hype and define their purpose in using social networks to reach individual objectives that have affinities to economic and social gains.

A rationale and strategic purpose for individuals is one defined around a return on their investment in time spent using social networks for individual purposes.One might justify a return on time spent with claims of making new friends, enjoying the exchanges of ideas, thoughts, experiences etc.

One might suggest that the medium creates value by offering learning opportunities from the vast audience of diverse individuals willing to share their expertise on any particular subject matter. With the ongoing addition of new media to the medium one might enjoy accessing live or on demand audio and video programs for entertainment.

Whatever the justification may be the bottom line is that most are using all the mediums as consumers of media, few are effectively using the medium for personal economic gain.

The Cost vs. The Promise of Gain

There are millions of people blogging as a means of expression. Some chase the mean hoping to make money off of ads, i.e. Google adsense. Some get excited about affiliate marketing programs and subsequently peddle products through their blogs and web sites hoping their viewers will click on an offer. Others look for a combination of products, technology and methods to make incremental income from each hoping the sum of the parts justifies the cost of time.

Everyday there are new products or technology promoting a promise of How to make six figure incomes off the internet that remind us of yet another MLM pitch weve all heard before.Social networks are a buzz of users promoting their causes, interest and businesses hoping to attract other users to spend their time interacting in yet another group.

Facebook is exploding with groups and just recently Linkedin followed form and made group formation easy for anyone to set up then invite the masses to join. The networking platform operators are adding new applications daily all centered on enticing us with widgets, gadgets and toys to further express ourselves or become affiliated yet with another media. Recruiters are all over the place hoping to establish a relationship with potential candidates that can fill new job openings.

To say the least, all of this has become a huge drain on personal and professional time and it has become habit forming for millions of adults, not just kids anymore.

When will a general business purpose emerge? While one can see and understand the personal purposes a business can only justify the cost of time or investment based on a definable return, whether immediate or in the future. Certainly recruiters and marketers have found a business purpose in use of the medium but there is a host of other business segments, both individuals and organizations, waiting for a new model to emerge that justifies the time to learn, leverage and facilitates measurable economic gains.

The medium enables relationship reach which is an important part of any business. The value add for business will be when the medium enables richness in transactions amongst relationships that facilitate exchanges of goods and services at less cost than existing means.

This is when The Relationship Economy will emerge with new methods of commerce.

If you really want to secure government contacts at the county level; there is a lot more than just getting on a list and bidding on a solicitation. First you need to know who the County Board Of Supervisors are. It is important for you to know the local county supervisors representing your area by name. It is equally important for them to know yours. You should attend at least one function during the campaign season of a county supervisor. Incumbent supervisors are usually re-elected so attend one campaign party. If a county supervisor has an office in your town, it should be on your schedule to visit and meet the staff. Many county supervisors have an office staff of two to three people. They make good customers because their caseload is high and they are too busy to do much shopping. These caseworkers are like reporters; they know everything and every body. Kind of like the staff at the catholic churches, they know who is doing what, when and to whom.

You also need to make it a point to meet the Department Heads where you believe you might be able to get a contract with; either for services or to sell your wares. You will eventually over time meet all the department heads in the county. These department heads determine who gets what contracts and how long they get to keep them. They will divulge information to you that you should not know. For instance:

What contracts will be coming up before an official announcement has been made

The price the present contractor is charging

Any problems with the present contractors

They many times do favors for friends or contractors they would rather work with. Some are on the take we expect. You are not to indulge in bribes and kick backs, but you should realize some of them are and your competitors are part of the scandals. If you become a whistle blower you will never get a contract so we do not advise that, just be aware of the reality. Face it they lied to you in school the honesty in government is a complete fraud, but you are grown up now and must deal with it. So understand the game, but take the high-road. Think about it.

Now youve heard it all before, havent you? Are you mad?! Dont you read the papers?! Remember that girl who had a party and 25,000 of damage was caused to her family home?!

Ok, but lets face facts for whatever reason, youre hosting one. At home, at a venue the risks are basically the same. So well do our level best to help you avoid the worst pitfalls, and who knows, maybe even enjoy the party (a bit) yourself!

But first, lets have a bit of positive thinking here. What are the benefits (yes, we really do believe there are some) of hosting a teen party?

So, lets move onto some solid advice. The first, and most important, is that youre probably worrying ad infinitum about the other parents. Or, more to the point, what their kids might get up to in your care.

And yes, we do mean the obligatory twins of adolescent life sex and booze. Hosting at home does bring added problems. Yes, like many others, you probably have beds in your house. And more than one room, unless youre living in an open plan creation of Grand Designs ilk, theres bound to be rooms, cubby holes, dark areas of the garden, garages, cellars, attics.the list goes onewhere naughty teen lovers can attempt to hide away.

Theres a couple of preventative measures you can try and take here whether youre planning to be in the house or venue at the dreaded party time or not! Firstly, why not install CCTV. Ok, ok, ok. You could try out of bounds areas, locking doors, or even planting elderly relatives in the most appealing looking rooms to scare them off. But, once combined with a touch of alcohol, teenage lust does have a tendency to find a venue in which to occur.

The best bet is to ensure as many of the parents of your teens mates as possible know that you wont be there. Even if you will be there. Their childrens behaviour is down to them it really isnt your responsibility.

So, hopefully, theyll all be so busy trying to scurry off in twosomes that theyll forget about the drink. But hey, lets face it, we were all young once, and inevitably the booze comes firstand the rest later. If youre planning to offer some alcohol at your event, then the same rule applies tell the parents. If they dont want their child to drink, then thats up to them. Their child doesnt have to come, after all!

And even if youre not planning to offer booze up front, do be prepared for almost every attendee bringing their own. From dads half drunk whisky to a 3 litre bottle of cider from the local shop, theyll find a way. The best plan is to have a lot of food on offer to soak it up. And get the food out early on too any lining of the stomach you can do just might help. Soft drinks should be in plentiful supply too. But face facts too that expensive rug should be out of the way, and sick buckets in every corner really wouldnt go amiss!

If its your belongings youre worrying about, or the fixtures and fittings of the venue that have you enduring sleepless nights, a bit of forward planning and clear expectations can help. Plastic cups, paper plates, locked away valuables, paintings removed from the walls - these are all sensible preparations to make! Dont underestimate the destructive capabilities of teens en masse think the worst, and just prepare for it! Then at least theres a chance you might be pleasantly surprised! Oh, and if you have pets, a fish pond or tank, whatever you do, make sure they sleep over at someone elses for the night. Theyll thank you for it!

Finally, if it all goes horribly wrong, try and remember the following: not everything is your childs fault so dont act like it is!

As an eight-year-old, music played a small, but important part in my life. My mother taught my one year younger brother and I how to sing. We were expected to entertain the releatives when they visited, the harmony part sung by me and the melody by my brother, Allan. At the time a popular duo called the Moilen Sisters graced the airwaves weekly with two part harmony. Some of the songs they sang were \”Music in the Air\”, \”Till We Meet Again\” and \”You Are My Sunshine\”. We owned two radios, a table model Emerson in curly maple and an upright console model inherited from my grandmother. Every week we would sit entranced by the radio listening to \”Lets Pretend\” (stories for children) and \”The Shadow\”. Every Christmas my presents always included some type of musical instrument - a large toy xylophone, a harmonica, and once even a real ukelele.

One day I woke up to construction noises in the living room. A quad of workmen was dismantling our bay window and dangling from a huge crane was a large, black upright piano. My fingers itched in anticipation while I watched the piano slowly make its way into the living room. Grandpa finally retired and there was no room for an upright piano in their new apartment.

Accompianing the piano were several boxes of piano rolls. The piano was a player piano! With vigorous action on the two pumper pedals, the Hungarian Rhapsody filled the air and could easily be heard a block away.

For two dollars a week, my mother saw to it that I had piano lessons. Mrs Troise was a kind old lady who taught piano for extra money. We couldn\’t afford the music books I needed, so she let me use hers. Voice lessons were included and I sang the lead in a production of Hansel and Gretel operetta. The highlight of my musical experience was a trip to Carnegie Hall to hear Paul Hoffman play the Hungarian Rhapsody #2.

After six months of lessons, a piano recital was arranged for me. It was there that I had to admit that I couldn\’t read a note of music. Mrs. Troise asked me how I had learned the music that I had performed and I explained that when she played the piece just to give me an idea of how the piece should sound, I had learned the piece by ear. Of course, I practiced at home using the music as an occasional reference.

The piano traveled with the family to a small bungalow in a nearby town. With no more lessons planned for me, my mother bought me a book called \”How to Play the Piano by Ear\”. I took to it like a duck to water and soon could play most of the tunes I heard on the radio and at family gatherings. Out of the house, no piano was safe from my hands, I had to try them all. I christened pianos in churches, bars, reception halls, school music rooms and in stores.

When we moved to the hotel in Blairstown, my father decided to convert the piano into an automatic electrified player piano for the guests to play. An old Electrolux vacuum motor and quite a few parts from my erector set found its way into the piano innards. It worked perfectly. Soon we possessed a collection of over two hundred piano rolls. Represented were classical selections, show tunes, pop songs and old standards. Every week our family and guests would gather in the music room to sing the old songs. My Aunt Louise sang alto (the low fifth), Dad and some uncles sang bass and there were many tenors, (the third above the lead). The rest sang the melody. I played the piano.

Then there exists the buyer behavior segmentation where the primary idea is that different customer groups expect different benefits from the same product, and as such their motivations in owning it and their behavior in buying it will be different.

In volume segmentation, the quantity of purchase or the potential quantity of purchase is the basis for segmentation. There may be different types of buyers, such as bulk buyers and small-scale buyers, regular buyers and one-time buyers. All will have to be treated differently.
